As the months flow by, we are over halfway through our 8-month flowering season here in the field. In what seems like the blink of an eye the Spring bulbs are a distant memory, and the replacement Tulips for 2024 have been selected. The biennial seeds are sown, and the Perennials and Hardy Annual seeds are waiting in the wings. From June onward the field starts to produce an Abundant crop which many would not think is important, as it is fairly insignificant visually, As the flowers fade don’t miss your next harvest.
All flowers have their moment and then they turn to seed.
One thing that many people who enjoy cut flowers overlook is that plants don’t actually produce flowers with us in mind, (without getting too scientific). The flowers are borne out of necessity to attract the pollinating insects of the region, as it is the job of a plant to produce its next generation, for this to happen the flowers must be pollinated often helped on the way by busy insects. Hence the flowers to protect the seeds and attract the pollinators. Once this process has taken place the job of the flower is done and a plant produces seed, to create the next generation.
